Rothely

Dennis was first diagnosed with Dementia 10 years ago. He got by with support from his wife but when she sadly died, life became much harder.

Recognising the need for professional care, Dennis’ sons got in touch with the Blanche Sargeaunt Foundation who were able to help meet the cost of providing Dennis with a permanent live-in carer.

Dennis’ son explained to us what this meant to his Dad and the family:

“Following our Mother’s death it became impossible for Dad to care for himself; it was clear that professional help was needed.

Social Services assessed Dad’s needs and agreed to provide carers who would visit 4 times a day for 30 minutes a time. Unfortunately, the carers seemed to change on an almost daily basis and the microwaved meals they prepared were less than nutritious.

My brother and I could see that Dad’s health was deteriorating and we had to do something. We considered a care home but Dad was very against this idea, preferring to stay in the home where he had spent the last 30 years or so of his life.

We contacted Quality Life UK who explained the benefits of live-in care. It sounded the perfect solution but the only issue was cost. Amelia at Quality Life UK mentioned The Blanche Sargeaunt Foundation to us and we submitted an application. Within a week the Charity had confirmed that they would contribute towards the cost.

The care that has been provided for Dad this last year has been outstanding. Physically, he is visibly stronger and he seems as happy as could be expected in the circumstances. We are very grateful for the combined support that The Blanche Sargeaunt Foundation and Quality Life UK have provided. Between them they have allowed Dad to stay living in the comfort of his own home. We will always be so grateful.”
